Chile 1833-So I 2 escudos
This specimen was lot 1114 in Jean Elsen sale 111 (Brussels, December 2011), where it sold for €800 (about US$1,231 including buyer's fees).
The catalog description[1] noted,
"CHILI, République (1818- ), AV 2 escudos, 1833 I, Seulement 224 p. frappées. Extrêmement Rare. Petit éclat du flan au revers. Provient de notre liste 170, mars 1995, 372. Très Beau. (Republic of Chile, gold two escudos of 1833, only 224 pieces struck, extremely rare, small rim nick on reverse, from our list 170, March 1995, very fine.)"
The type was struck 1824-27 and 1832-34. This "crossed flags" design was also used for one, four and eight escudos coins.
