Chile 1811-So FJ real
This specimen was lot 1707 in Aureo y Calicó sale 423 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 380 € (about US$492 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1811. Fernando VII. Santiago. FJ. 1 real. Graded NGC as AU Details Cleaned, no. 2900514-013. Small flan defects. Some of its original luster. The best known. Ex Isabel Trastámara Collection 04/23/2015, no. 424. Ex Colección Medina. Val and Mexía Collection. Rare, especially in this condition. EBC [extremely fine]." This type was struck at Santiago 1808-17 in limited numbers but enough were saved that it is not rare. The bust of Charles IV was used on the one real and one escudo while an imaginary bust of Ferdinand was used on the two reales, eight reales and eight escudos.
