This specimen was lot 23797 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $1,207.50. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Carlos IIII Real 1806-FJ, MS63 NGC Whittier Collection, remarkably bold details with light toning, rarely encountered in mint state. From The Tarapaca Collection of Chilean Coins."
This specimen is one of a series struck 1792-1808 in Santiago during the reign of Charles IV. The opening of an enlarged Casa de Moneda in 1805 allowed the increase in mintages and this type is not rare. A overdate, 1806/5, is also recorded.
