Sedwick sale 11, lot 972

The specimen shown was lot 972 in Sedwick sale 11 (Winter Park, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $345. The catalog description[1] noted, "Santiago, Chile, bust 4 reales, Charles IV, 1796DA. Nice VF+ with rainbow toning near edge, parts of rims slightly crude (as made), no problems." This type was issued from Santiago 1792-1808 and, tho not common, is much less rare than preceding types.

Recorded mintage: 11,000.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.896 fine silver, .390 troy oz ASW, this specimen 13.3 grams.
