Canada 2005 100 dollars
This specimen was lot 22268 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 100 Dollars, 2005. PCGS PROOF-69 DEEP CAMEO Secure Holder. From a mintage of only 5,092 pieces. Struck to commemorate the 130th Anniversary of the Supreme Court of Canada. Essentially perfect with a mint-colorized allegorical justice with sword in the foreground and the Supreme Court of Canada building in the background. Includes certificate of authenticity serial #4336." The profits extracted from the manufacture and sale of NCLT's caused the Royal Canadian Mint to scramble for ever more arcane topics, including this one honoring the 130th Anniversary of the Supreme Court of Canada. We don't know why the mint chose to use 14 K gold for this series.
Recorded mintage: 5,092.
Specification: 12 g, 0.583 fine gold, 27 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: Fr-79; KM-593.
