This specimen was lot 71266 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 75 Dollars, 2005. Ottawa Mint. PCGS PROOF-69 Deep Cameo. Struck to commemorate Pope John Paul II, this razor sharp example presents hard mirrored fields and frosted cameo devices." The profits extracted from the manufacture and sale of NCLT's caused the Royal Canadian Mint to scramble for ever more arcane topics, including this one honoring John Paul II. We don't know why the mint chose to use 10 K gold for this series.
Recorded mintage: 1,870 proofs.
Specification: 31.44 g, 0.417 fine gold, 0.421 oz, 36.07 mm diameter.
