Aureo y Calicó sale 422, lot 3214

This specimen was lot 3214 in Aureo y Calicó sale 422 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 300 € (about US$389 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Canadá. 2006. Isabel II. 100 dólares. Hockey. En estuche oficial con certificado [in official box with certificate]. AU 0,5833. Proof." The profits extracted from the manufacture and sale of NCLT's caused the Royal Canadian Mint to scramble for ever more arcane topics, including this one honoring a 75 year old hockey match. We don't know why the mint chose to use 14 K gold for this series of 2004-15 (KM 528, KM 593, 591 (shown here), KM 689, 823, 898, KM 997, 1073, 1389, 1441, 1845).

Recorded mintage: 5,439.

Specification: 12 g, 0.583 fine gold, this specimen 12 g.

Catalog reference: Fr-90, KM 591.
