Stack's Bowers 2021 NYINC sale, lot 23306

This specimen was lot 23306 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 100 Dollars, 2010. BRILLIANT PROOF. Struck for the 400th anniversary of the discovery of Hudson Bay. A brilliant and attractive proof with mirrored fields and frosty devices. Sold with original case of issue and certificate of authenticity #0780." The profits extracted from the manufacture and sale of NCLT's caused the Royal Canadian Mint to scramble for ever more arcane topics, including this one honoring the discovery of icebound Hudson Bay.
