GB SB1019-72184r.jpg

This specimen was lot 72184 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Cambridgeshire. County. Copper 1/2 Penny Token, 1795. NGC MS-64 Brown. Obverse: INDUSTRY HAS IT'S [sic] SURE REWARD, bees flying around beehive; Reverse: RULE BRITANNIA, Britannia seated left on globe, holding spear and resting elbow upon shield. Edge: PAYABLE IN LONDON. A glimmering example with substantial luster verging upon red-brown in color. Much of the surface still retains ample red, and flaws are scant to be seen on this near Gem." It may reassure grammatical nitpickers that the "IT'S" error is two centuries old.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper.

Catalog reference: D&H-14b.
