This specimen was lot 74515 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 5 Taler, 1762-E/IDB. Brunswick Mint. Karl I. NGC VF-35. Only moderately and evenly circulated, this gold issue retains handsome detail and an alluring radiance. Ex: Augustana Collection." This type is listed for 1742-75 but is rare despite the long run of production. The duke also struck 2½ (Fr-715) and ten thaler gold pieces.
