This specimen was lot 73253 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 12 Mariengroschen, 1725-EPH. Zellerfeld Mint; mm: crossed axes between HH. August Wilhelm. PCGS AU-55. Featuring a rather deep cabinet tone, this barely handled fractional denomination would undoubtedly serve as an excellent representative of the type. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This denomination was one half gulden or one third of a thaler. This type was struck 1714-31 and is common. Mintmaster EPH appears 1723-31. The concurrent "leaping stallion" coin of the same weight was a one-third thaler.
