Künker sale 354, lot 5523

This specimen was lot 5523 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €4,000 (about US$5,567 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Anton Ulrich, 1704-1714. Reichstaler 1714, Braunschweig, auf seinen Tod am 27. März. Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Feine Tönung, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 41, Osnabrück 1998, Nr. 1040. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Anton Ulrich, 1704-14, thaler of 1714, Brunswick mint, on his death on March 27. Scarce in this quality, choice example, fine toning, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

Duke Anton Ulrich succeeded his brother Rudolf Anton in 1704 but survived him only ten years. This death commemorative is accompanied by Dav0215 with his arms on the reverse. Both are rare.
