SB1123-73510r.jpg

This specimen was lot 73510 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. Taler, 1714-HH. Zellerfeld Mint; mm: crossed axes between HH. August Wilhelm. PCGS AU-55. An example from the first year of this design type. This coin displays a bold and assertively-stanced Wild Man - well sculpted and detailed. A small area of weakness on the reverse is the result of bold relief of the obverse. The surfaces are a pleasing steel gray with a pleasing variation in the richness of tone. A very attractive example of the type. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection. Includes ticket from Kuenker." This thaler, struck 1714-30 for August Wilhelm, is scarce.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.
