This specimen was lot 1326 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 500 (about US$659 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Taler 1611. Zellerfeld Fast vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, thaler of 1611, Zellerfeld mint, nice extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1600-13 in Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel at Zellerfeld (shown here) and Goslar and is among the more common thalers of the period. The "wild man" design was popular in Brunswick and Hannover at the time and appeared on many different thalers and minors.
