Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel (15)57 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 72184 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Wolfenbuttel. 1/2 Taler, 1557. Goslar Mint. Heinrich "the Younger". PCGS EF-45. A fairly RARE and seldom seen minor, this example exhibits pleasing detail remaining with the Duke wearing the Collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece. Lightly toned, with a hint of off-centering to the wildman side and with a minor planchet crack in front of the Duke's bust. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection. Ex: Gorny & Mosch 123 (3/2003) Lot # 3076. Ex: Lanz 107 (11/2001) Lot # 649." This type was struck 1557-68 and undated. It is expensive like many half thalers but is somewhat available. Note the two digit date which appears often on coins of this reign.
