This specimen was lot 5630 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €5,500 (about US$7,654 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Georg Wilhelm, 1648-1665. Reichstaler 1661, Zellerfeld. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Herrliche Patina, vorzüglich +. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 50, Osnabrück 1999, Nr. 29. Georg Wilhelm kam als zweiter Sohn Georgs nach Christian Ludwig zur Welt. Ab 1648 übernahm er als Nachfolger seines Bruders die Herrschaft im Fürstentum Calenberg. Im Jahr 1658 überließ er seine Verlobte Sophie von der Pfalz im sog. Brauttausch seinem jüngeren Bruder Ernst August. 1665 folgte er nach dem Tode Christian Ludwigs seinem Bruder als „Heideherzog“ im Fürstentum Lüneburg nach. Das Motto Georg Wilhelms in Calenberg war „PIETATE ET IUSTITIA“ – durch Frömmigkeit und Gerechtigkeit. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg, George William, 1648-65, thaler of 1661, Zellerfeld mint. Very scarce in this quality, choice example, superb patina, extremely fine or better. Georg Wilhelm was born as the second son of Georg after Christian Ludwig. From 1648 he took over the rule in the Principality of Calenberg as his brother's successor. In 1658 he traded his fiancée Sophie von der Pfalz to his younger brother Ernst August in a so-called bridal swap. In 1665, after the death of Christian Ludwig, he succeeded his brother as duke in the Principality of Lüneburg[-Celle]. Georg Wilhelm's motto in Calenberg was "PIETATE ET IUSTITIA" - "piety and justice".)"

Georg Wilhelm was promoted to duke of Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle on the death of his brother Christian Ludwig in 1665 and he ruled in Celle until 1705. This rare type was struck 1661-62.
