Künker sale 386, lot 5244

This specimen was lot 5244 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €300 (about US$388 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BREMEN, STADT, 48 Grote 1753, mit Titel von Franz I. Feine Patina, winz. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, vorzüglich. (city of Bremen, 48 grote of 1753, struck in the name of Francis I. Fine patina, minor planchet defect on the edge, extremely fine.)"

One thaler was 72 groten. This coin was probably intended to be a two-thirds thaler or gulden but is a little light, a common occurence in this period. Bremen issued coinage only intermittently in the eighteenth century and usually in small quantities.

Recorded mintage: 1,242.

Specification: silver, this specimen 17,45 g.

Catalog reference: KM 200, Dav-320 A; Jungk 530.
