Shown is an aluminum bronze 2000 réis of the United States of Brazil. This is one of a series of circulating commemoratives issued in the 1920's and 1930's which today form an interesting but inexpensive set. This particular one commemorates general Caxias (1803-80) and was issued 1936-38. The denomination was abolished in 1942 with the reform of the coinage in that year.
Recorded mintage: 665,000 for 1936-37.
Specification: 8.62 g, aluminum bronze, 26 mm diameter.
