This specimen was lot 1164 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $517.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "1752 4,000 reis. Crowned arms, legends and denomination around/plain cross in quadralobe within circle, legends and date around. IOSEPHUS in legend. Lustrous medium gold, subtle adjustment marks under date and below crown. A very attractive specimen. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942." The type was struck 1751-77 without mintmark. Later types exist dated 1778-1822. It is the largest of the "moedas provinciales" series and the only one that can be called somewhat common.

Recorded mintage: 4,000.

Specification: 8.07 g, 0.917 fine gold, .237 troy oz AGW; this specimen: 8.10 grams, 27.50 mm diameter.
