This specimen was lot 1165 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $517.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "1752 2,000 reis. Types as above. IOSEPHUS in legend. Medium orange gold with a trace of lustre and good eye appeal. Purchased from B. Max Mehl, January 1943, apparently privately." The type was struck 1749, 1752 and 1771 without mintmark. Later types exist dated 1771-93. It is the middle of the "moedas provinciales" series.

Specification: 4.03 g, 0.917 fine gold, .118 troy oz AGW; this specimen: 4.06 grams, 23.60 mm diameter.
