This specimen was lot 23167 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $18,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "João V gold 1000 Reis 1727-M, XF45 NGC, a nice original example of this very rare type and date from the Minas Gerais Mint." This type was struck at the Minas Gerais mint 1724-27 and at Bahia (KM 104) and Rio.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.68 g, 0.917 fine gold, .079 oz AGW.
