This specimen was lot 1077 in Jean Elsen sale 164 (Brussels, March 2026), where it sold for €360 (about US$501 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRABANT, Duché, Charles II (1665-1700), AR 4 patards, 1699, Anvers. D/ Croix de Bourgogne sous une couronne, ornée du bijou de la Toison d'or. R/ Écu couronné. Très rare. Belle patine. Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Charles II, 1665-1700, silver four patards of 1699, Antwerp mint. Obverse: Burgundian cross under a crown, decorated with the jewels of the Golden Fleece; reverse: crowned arms. Very rare, nice patina, Very Fine.)"
This type was struck 1698-1700 at Antwerp and the 1699 is the scarcest date. As the degenerate Charles II lay dying, all of Europe awaited the inevitable war over his inheritance, of which Brabant was one of the chief prizes.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
