This specimen was lot 563 in Jean Elsen list 269 (Brussels, July-August 2014), where it was offered for €550 (about US$748). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Charles II (1665-1700), AR patagon, 1698, Anvers. Nouveau type. Tranche cordée. Droit: Croix de Bourgogne couronnée, ornée du bijou de la Toison d'or, accostée du monogramme royal couronné. Revers: Ecu couronné, entouré du collier de la Toison d'or. Petites fêlures du flan et traces d'ajustage. Très Beau (duchy of Brabant, Charles II (1665-1700), silver patagon of 1698, Antwerp mint, new type, corded edge. Obverse: Burgundian cross under a crown divides two crowned monograms, jewel of the Golden Fleece below. Reverse: crowned arms, Order of the Golden Fleece around. Planchet crack, adjustment mark, very fine.)"

Patagons were issued in the Spanish Netherlands and associated states (including the bishopric of Liège and Franche Comte) during the seventeenth century, where they competed with French écus, German talers and Dutch daalders and ducatons. These patagons were issued from Brussels 1686-95 and Antwerp (hand mintmark, shown here) 1694-1700 but all dates are rare.
