Aureo sale 238, lot 467

This specimen was lot 467 in Aureo & Calicó sale 238 (Barcelona, November 2011), where it sold for 160 euro (about US$254 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1808. Potosí. PJ. 8 reales. Levísimas rayitas. Bella. Parte de brillo original. Escasa así. EBC. (eight reales of 1808, Potosí mint. Light marks, attractive, lustrous, extremely fine.)"

Assayer PJ is recorded for the years 1803-25. These eight reales of Ferdinand VII dated 1808 were almost certainly minted later as they bear the standard bust of the king not used until 1811 in Mexico.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.896 fine, .780 ASW.

Catalog reference: Cayón-15790, Cal. 599, KM 84.
