Bolivia 1802-PTS PP 4 escudos
This specimen was lot 30092 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $1,057.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles IV gold 4 Escudos 1802 PTS-PP VF30 NGC, Potosi mint. Unflawed Very Fine and quite appealing for the designation. A rare type and quite desirable in this wholesome preservation." While silver coins from Bolivia exist in vast quantities, gold from Bolivia is scarce. For the colonial period, Colombia may be regarded as the most prolific issuer, followed by Mexico, followed by Peru. Bolivia, Chile and Guatemala are minor sources. This type was minted 1791-1808 and is scarce.
