This specimen was lot 25291 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos IIII gold 4 Escudos 1802-FT, XF45 NGC, an attractive piece with soft toning and traces of luster in the legends and on the reverse. Scarce denomination." The four escudos is the scarcest Mexican colonial gold denomination. Few can afford to collect this type by date so no date brings a premium. This coin was legal tender in the United States, where it would have traded for $7.75.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.875 fine gold, .380 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Cayón-14401, Fr-44; KM-144.
