This specimen was lot 194 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 21 (Winter Park, FL, May 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lima, Peru, bust 4 escudos, Charles IV, 1802IJ, unique (unlisted), encapsulated NGC XF 40. Light red toning and luster, would be AU but bust is too weak, this date (along with 1803) amazingly unlisted in KM and CT, first we have seen or heard of, as it is missing in all published collections." This coin was minted 1792-1808 and is the most common Peruvian colonial four escudos, tho this is obviously a rare date.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 13.53 g, 0.875 fine gold, .380 troy oz AGW.
Catalog reference: Cayón-unlisted, Fr-41, CT-unlisted; KM-98 (unlisted date).
