This specimen was lot 744 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $228. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 4 reales, 1728 M, ex-Ponte. Worn (VG) with flat areas but clear date and two assayers nonetheless, toned in crevices, some old marks. Pedigreed to the Luis R. Ponte Collection." This type was struck for Philip V through his entire reign--unlike in Europe, his rule was never challenged in America. Assayer M stamped coins 1728-33. The silver cobs were debased from 0.931 fine to 0.917 fine in 1728.
