Áureo y Calicó sale 345, lot 473

This specimen was lot 473 in Áureo y Calicó sale 345 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €300 (about US$396 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1698. Carlos II. Potosí. F. 8 reales. MBC-. (kingdom of Spain, Charles II, eight reales of 1698, Potosí mint. About very fine.)"

This type was struck 1667-1701 for Charles II. It superseded the shield/cross type which was discredited in the debasement scandal of the 1630's and 1640's.
