Sedwick sale 27, lot 602

This specimen was lot 602 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 27 (Winter Park, FL, May 2020), where it sold for $226.10. The catalog description[1] noted, "Potosí, Bolivia, cob 8 reales, 1699F. Full pillars and cross despite peripheral flatness, two partial dates and assayers and mintmarks, deeply toned Fine." This type was struck 1667-1701 for Charles II. It superseded the shield/cross type which was discredited in the debasement scandal of the 1630's and 1640's.
