This specimen was lot 72309 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $4,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Cob 8 Reales, 1698-Mo L. Mexico City Mint. Charles II. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, Fine Details. A rectangular Cob with details only visible of the left side of the shield, showing clear mintmark, assayer, and full date. From the S.P. Rutherford Collection." This specimen is a silver cob eight reales struck at Mexico City 1666-1700. Assayer "L" is listed for 1678-1704. Dated examples are few.
