Bavaria 1805 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 5325 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$4,175 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BAYERN, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1623 KURFÜRSTENTUM, Maximilian I. (IV.) Joseph, 1799-1806-1825. 1/2 Konv.-Taler 1805, München. Prachtexemplar. Herrliche Patina, fast Stempelglanz. (Germany, electorate of Bavaria, Maximilian IV Joseph, 1799-1806, half convention thaler of 1805, Munich mint. Choice example, handsome patina, about uncirculated.)"
This scarce type was struck 1803-05; this is the most common of the three dates. It is the last half thaler struck before Napoleon promoted Maximilian Joseph to king.
