Künker sale 293, lot 160

This specimen was lot 160 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €400 (about US$539 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BAYERN, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1623 KURFÜRSTENTUM, Maximilian I. (IV.) Joseph, 1799-1806-1825. Konv.-Taler 1803. Leicht justiert, vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Bavaria, Maximilian IV Joseph, 1799-1825, convention thaler of 1803. Light adjustment marks, extremely fine.)"

This issue of 1803 is among the last minted before Napoleon promoted Maximilian from Elector to King. A variety exists with "CD" stamped on the truncation of the king's bust.
