This specimen was lot 193 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 1,800 CHF (about US$2,286 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Bayern, Herzogtum, seit 1623 Kurfürstentum, Maximilian IV. (I.) Joseph, 1799-1825. Dukat 1803, München. Vorzüglich. Feine Goldpatina. Winzige Kratzer. (Germany, electorate of Bavaria, Maximilian IV Joseph, 1799-1825, ducat of 1803, Munich mint. Extremely Fine, Nice gold toning, hairlines.)"
This rare type, issued 1799-1803, comes in two varieties, varying in the spelling of the elector's name. In 1805 he was promoted to king by Napoleon.
