Künker sale 293, lot 159

This specimen was lot 159 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €460 (about US$620 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BAYERN, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1623 KURFÜRSTENTUM, Maximilian I. (IV.) Joseph, 1799-1806-1825. 20 Kreuzer 1802. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Rare in this quality, proof example, fine patina, minimal adjustment marks, about uncirculated.)"

This type of 1801-03 is the next-to-last 20 kreuzer or 1/6 thaler struck before Maximilian Joseph was promoted to king by Napoleon. Like most billon coins, it is rare in nice condition.
