Bavaria 1798 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 2067 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €260 (about US$368 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · BAYERN, KURFÜRSTENTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH Karl Theodor, 1777-1799. 1/2 Konv.-Taler 1798 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1797 geändert), München. Feine Patina, min. justiert, vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Bavaria, Charles Theodore, 1777-99, half convention thaler of 1798, Munich mint, 1798/7 overdate. Fine patina, minor adjustments, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck steadily 1778-98 but does not turn up often.
