Sincona sale 59, lot 3039

This specimen was lot 3039 in Sincona sale 59 (Zürich, October 2019), where it sold for 550 CHF (about US$666 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Bistum Basel, Johann Konrad II. von Reinach-Hirzbach, 1705-1737. Vierteltaler 1717, Pruntrut. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Randfehler. (Switzerland, bishopric of Basel, Johann Konrad II of Reinach-Hirzbach, 1705-37, quarter thaler of 1717, Pruntrut mint. Very fine-extremely fine. Edge flaw.)"

The bishop of Basel was driven from his seat when Basel turned Protestant during the Reformation. He resided in Pruntrut and issued coins from there. This type was struck 1717 only.
