This specimen is one of a type struck at the Royal Mint for the Bahamas 1974-85. In 1974 the bust of the queen was dropped in favor of the arms of the Bahamas. The Franklin Mint produced the proofs 1971-85. In 1985 the composition was changed to copper plated zinc (KM 59a), which design was used until 2004. The starfish reverse makes this coin a popular souvenir for sunburned tourists.
Recorded mintage: 5,000,000 plus 1,980 proofs.
