Künker sale 406, lot 3874

This specimen was lot 3874 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €1,400 (about US$1,837 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Franz II. 1792-1804. Souverain d'or 1793, H, Günzburg. GOLD. RR Leichte Kratzer unter dem Porträt, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion H. D. Rauch 105, Wien 2017, Nr. 1839. (Holy Roman Empire, Francis II, gold souverain of 1793, Günzburg mint. Very rare, light scratch under the portrait, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1792-98 at six mints with only a rare issue of 1793 from Brussels, which originated this denomination for the Austrian Netherlands back in the 1750's. Similar coins are known from Vienna, Kremnitz, Milan, Venice and Hall.

Recorded mintage: 60,000, one of the more common dates.
