Austrian Netherlands 1795-B souverain d'or Fr-469
The first specimen was lot 20174 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Souverain d'Or, 1795-B. Kremnitz Mint. Francis II (1792-1835). NGC MS-62. Cataloged by the SCWC under the Austrian Netherlands but struck in Hungary. Displaying choice eye appeal for the grade, with strong prooflike qualities in the fields and no deep marks over the surfaces. Quite possibly conservatively graded." The second specimen was lot 2023 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 1,300 CHF (about US$1,886 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Franz II. (I.), 1792-1835. Souverain d'or 1795 B, Kremnitz. Gutes sehr schön. Feine Kratzer. (Holy Roman Empire, Francis II (I), 1792-1835, souverain d'or of 1795, Kremnitz mint. Good Very Fine, Minor hairlines.)"
This type is filed under the Austrian Netherlands, an area which is now Belgium and Luxembourg. However, the "B" mintmark indicates that it was struck in Kremnitz, in Austrian Hungary. Similar coins are known from Vienna, Günzburg, Brussels, Milan and Hall. The type was struck 1792-98 and previous souverains d'or date back to the reign of Maria Theresa.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a common date.
