This specimen was lot 76178 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIAN NETHERLANDS. Souverain d'Or, 1794-A. Vienna Mint. Franz II. PCGS Genuine--Mount Removed, AU Details. Though slight edge bumps and surface marks suggest previous use within a bezel, this gold issue has retained a strong brilliance and highly presentable strike. From the G. L. Hermann Collection." This type is filed under the Austrian Netherlands, an area which is now Belgium and Luxembourg. Besides Vienna, similar coins are known from Hall, Milan, Kremnitz and Brussels. The type was struck at Vienna 1792-98 and previous souverains d'or date back to the reign of Maria Theresa.
