Brabant J124-601r.jpg

This specimen was lot 601 in Jean Elsen sale 124 (Brussels, March 2015), where it sold for €1,800 (about US$2,245 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

(duchy of Brabant, Maria Theresia (1740-80), silver quarter ducaton of 1751, Antwerp mint. Obverse: draped and diademed bust to right with earring; reverse: crowned arms of the Burgundian cross. Rare in this quality, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This type is recorded for 1749-53 and is doubtless rarer than the SCWC gives credit.

Reported Mintage: 210,000.

Specification: 8.31 g, 0.944 fine silver, this specimen 8,35 g.
