Sincona sale 39, lot 4144

This specimen was lot 4144 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Franz II. (I.), 1792-1835 Kronentaler 1797 G. Nagybanya. Fast vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Francis II, 1792-1835, crown thaler of 1797, Nagybánya mint. About extremely fine.)"

This type is listed for 1792-97 in the SCWC under the Austrian Netherlands, which we regard as an error, as the type was struck throughout the Austrian empire. Nagybanya was in Hungary.

Recorded mintage: unknown but slightly scarce.

Specification: 29.44 g, 0.873 fine silver, .826 troy oz ASW, 39 mm diameter, lettered edge, engraved by Théodore Van Berckel; this specimen is 29.26 g.
