Sincona sale 39, lot 4141

This specimen was lot 4141 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 120 CHF (about US$144 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Franz II. (I.), 1792-1835 Kronentaler 1797 B. Kremnitz. Vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Francis II, 1792-1835, crown thaler of 1797, Kremnitz mint. Extremely fine.)"

This type is listed for 1792-97 in the SCWC under the Austrian Netherlands, which we regard as an error, as the type was struck throughout the Austrian empire. Kremnitz was in Hungary.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 29.44 g, 0.873 fine silver, .826 troy oz ASW; this specimen is 29.40 g.
