Austria 1796-B kronenthaler Dav-1180
This specimen was lot 2737 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $115. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIAN NETHERLANDS: Franz II, 1792-1795, AR kronenthaler, Kremnica, 1796-B, Fine. The Kronenthaler was first issued in 1755 in the Austrian Netherlands and it became a popular trade coin throughout Europe. The kronenthaler was initially issued with the same weight as the French écu." This type is listed for 1792-97 in the SCWC under the Austrian Netherlands, which we regard as an error, as the type was struck throughout the Austrian empire. Kremnitz was in Hungary.
Recorded mintage: unknown but common.
Specification: 29.44 g, 0.873 fine silver, .826 troy oz ASW, 39 mm diameter, lettered edge, engraved by Théodore Van Berckel.
