Austria 1778-VC S 20 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 1996 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. 20 Kreuzer 1778, Hall. Mit Münzmeisterzeichen VC (J. H. von Clotz) und S (Wardein J. J. Stocker). Vorzüglich-FDC. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, twenty kreuzer of 1778, Hall mint. About Uncirculated.)"
This denomination was struck at numerous mints in 1778 but this is the only one featuring Maria Theresia instead of Joseph II. It was struck 1768-80 in large numbers and is common today. Twenty kreuzer made one-sixth of a convention thaler.
