Austria 1757-KB thaler Dav-1157
This specimen was lot 3777 in Künker sale 385 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €950 (about US$1,228 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Franz I. 1745-1765. Konv.-Taler 1757, KB, Kremnitz. Feine Patina, vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Francis I, 1745-65, convention thaler of 1757, Kremnitz mint. Fine patina, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1751-65 for Francis I and is common. Francis was Holy Roman emperor but not king of Hungary, so the Austrian design was used. It was minted at Hall (Dav-1155), Prague (Dav-1158), Kremnitz (shown here) and Vienna. Another thaler (Dav-1132) was struck in Kremnitz with the bust of Maria Theresia.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, this specimen 28.01 g.
