Hungary 1763-KB thaler Dav-1132
This specimen was lot 5947 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 160 CHF (about US$202 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,
"UNGARN Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. Taler 1763, Kremnitz. Sehr schön. (Hungary, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, thaler of 1763, Kremnitz mint, very fine.)"
This type, struck 1751-65, is common. Hungary was reconquered by the Austrians from the Turks by 1700 but was never part of the Empire. Maria Theresia was queen of Hungary but never Holy Roman Emperor (being female); her portrait appears on a long series of Hungarian thalers (Dav-1125, -1125A, -1125B, -1126, -1127, -1128, -1129, -1130, -1131, Dav-1132).
Recorded mintage: unknown but common.
Specification: 28.82 g, 0.875 fine silver, this specimen is 27,97 g.
