Austria 1754-KB thaler Dav-1157
This specimen was lot 955 in Jean Elsen sale 126 (Brussels, September 2015), where it sold for €200 (about US$267 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SAINT EMPIRE, François Ier (1745-1765), AR Taler, 1754#KB, Kremnitz. D/ B. l., dr. et cuir. à d. R/ Aigle impériale couronnée. Fines griffes Très Beau à Superbe. (Holy Roman Empire, Francis I (1745-65), silver thaler of 1754, Kremnitz mint. Obverse: laureate, draped and armored bust to right; reverse: crowned imperial eagle. Fine scratches, very fine to extremely fine.)"
The type was struck 1751-65 and is common. It was minted at Hall (Dav-1155), Prague (Dav-1158), Kremnitz (shown here) and Vienna. As Kremnitz was not, strictly speaking, part of the German empire, we have also filed this type under Hungary.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 28.82 g, 0.875 fine silver, .810 troy oz ASW, this specimen 27,99 g.
