Künker sale 335, lot 4772

This specimen was lot 4772 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €3,400 (about US$4,449 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH. Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. 1/2 Konv.-Taler 1754, Prag. Münzmeister Bohumil Schaumberger. Mit Laubrand. Von größter Seltenheit. Feine Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich/vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, half convention thaler of 1754, Prague mint. Very rare, fine patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck in Prague in 1751, 1754, 1758-61 and 1765. It is the most common half thaler of the Bohemian type but it is not cheap. The Prague mint struck thalers and ducats of the unified design but not half thalers.
